Courtyard Gazebo

This is my courtyard. Last spring I bought a gazebo from Target. It is 10 X 10 feet. I believe I paid $299 for it. It is not bolted down or anything. It barely fit in my courtyard right outside my front door. Below is the view from my front gate. (more…)

Water Lily

This is a water lily I purchased yesterday. Isn’t it beautiful? Water lilies will hopefully have covered much of the pond surface by the time it gets hot. I’ve read (but don’t quote me) that you should cover about two-thirds of the surface with vegetation to keep a proper balance. This is to help control the algae and provide a cool place for the fish. Quiet At Last

Does anyone recognize this flower? It is a large bush-type flower. Probably four feet tall at least. The woman who lived here before me must have planted it. Someone yesterday observed that it might be a Peony. The ants love it, whatever it is. So it must be sweet-tasting. It falls over and has to be propped, though it is supposed to grow in this steel cage it continually spills out of. I’m feeling so sorry for it due to the ants. But I’m not sure what to do. (more…)

Minor Everyday Calamities

It is one of those weeks when appliances and plumbing cause minor disasters. Yesterday the plumber was out to fix a problem in the kitchen and laundry room. My washing machine had flooded and the drains had to be cleaned out. Yet again. (more…)
