For those of you wondering if I’ve fallen off the face of the earth, no I haven’t. But some of you may recall my fall backwards over some piles of deck lumber nearly five weeks ago. Well, the injury to my left foot has continued to keep me out of the garden. So I haven’t posted much.

Those of you whose blogs I normally read, please try and understand how sad it’s been not feeling well enough to get outside and work in my sanctuary. So I haven’t been visiting many gardening blogs either. It is just hard to be faced with seeing such beauty when I can’t participate. Yeah, I guess that’s being a bad sport…

However, upon seeing a specialist yesterday, I now have a steel boot that goes up to my knee on my foot, which enables me to get around with less pain. I will have this on for three weeks, and then they will reevaluate.

Because I am virtually indoors most of the time, I am continuing to blog on my decorating/craft blog, http://cozylittlehouse.blogspot.com, because at least I can enjoy still taking photos while inside. So I may not post much on this blog until fall, when, hopefully, I will have the full use of my foot back. I was told it is a difficult injury to heal. But at least I’m not hobbling around leaning on a cane anymore. There is that!

So, to answer those who’ve emailed to ask about me, I do appreciate your kind concern. It meant a lot to me that you cared. Sorry I have been remiss in my gardening endeavors.

1. Dear Brenda, so sorry to hear how lousy you’ve been feeling. I can relate to the foot problem…my ankle is still swelling up when I walk on it and could take most of the summer to heal enough to ‘take a walk’. UGH. That does not make me very happy, either;-( I try to get out though, and walk around the garden, and I’ve managed to do a few things out there as well as inside. And I work around the house, so I am getting around…but I’m technically supposed to stay off it. The swelling wouldn’t be so bad if I did! I hope you can hurry up and get well so you can enjoy your garden once again! I’m dealing w/Lyme Disease so that’s another bummer. I guess this summer wasn’t meant for ‘fun in the sun’…because I can’t tolerate the sun due to the med’s I have to take. My skin blisters up even with SPF 100…I couldn’t believe it! Well, there are lots of other things worse than missing garden time (uh, at the moment I can’t think of any!)…but, I’ll let you know if I do!

2. Brenda, I hate that you are in pain! I fell “down” the stairs while going up at my friends house a few weeks ago. My foot is still sore. It’s a tiny thing compared to what you are living with though. Get well!!

   About that bright reddish orange dragon fly….they land on my hosta blooms all the time. Last summer I never investigated up close, for the longest time I thought they were flowers or buds. They are back again this summer around the pond. Gorgeous!

   Since I mostly visit your decorating blog, I had almost forgotten about this gardening one. I just assumed you weren’t gardening so much because of the construction going on in your backyard & the hot humid Texas weather. I’m sorry to hear your foot is still giving you fits. I hope the new boot will help you get around better. It’s a royal pain to be gimpy. I know, I’ve done my time on more than one occasion. Getting old is a bitch! Excuse the french. Here’s to you feeling better & getting around better. And the dragonfly photo is amazing. I had to call my son over to take a look as he loves dragonflies. He thought it was amazing too.     aren’t out in and with your beloved garden and friends… Hopefully by the time you are back to normal, Robert will have worked his magic, the weather will be agreeable and all will be back to gorgous normal.

20. I’m so sorry, Brenda! I had to wear a big boot for months after I broke my ankle. It was nice to get around a little, after being off my feet for so long, even if it was cumbersome!

    Your garden still looks nice, though, and you have all those wonderful windows and doors to look out of!

27. Brenda, I feel so bad for you. With the 100 + degree heat we have been having, I haven’t been doing much out in the garden either, and it is frustrating. Hope everything works out for you and that you will soon be able to be outside and enjoy your new deck.

28. Brenda! I’m so sorry to hear you injured yourself. You know you can get a certain vicarious pleasure from visiting other blogs, though. I’m flattered you came to mine. I know just exactly how you feel since I just had the flu and for five days I was incapable of getting farther than the back gate. To walk around the day lily bed was exhausting, the idea of doing anything was quite out of the question.

    This probably accounts for the various rants I have been indulging in lately!

41. Brenda, I just realized that I hadn’t heard from you in ages and ran over here to see what’s going on. Girl, your foot injury sounds like some of the things I’ve done! I hope it’s doing better by now. I was out of the garden for 2 months in 2007 due to bunion surgery. Even though I’d planned it for the hottest part of the year, it was tough not even being able to hobble out there!

    I paged down and saw your deck pics … it looks great! What I really love is the Yorkie, though! I didn’t realize you had one. Our Nala was the doggie light of our lives for 8-1/2 years and I still miss her.

42. Brenda, so sorry to hear that your fall incapacitated you so much! I sure understand after having gone through a cast from a broken foot. No fun at all! And I needed a wheelchair because I am unable to use crutches for another poor old body condition.

    And today I am headed for the chiropractor for my back and hips.

    So, girlfriend, rather than have a “pity party”, why don’t you and I have a tea party and just go visiting some pretty blogs that cheer us up while sipping!

44. Brenda wishing you a speedy recovery. I know too well how one is limited in activities when foot is injured! I broke my ankle a year ago and reading this post brings me back to those memories of being cooped up..cast and wheelchairs ..quite limiting! Gell well!
